Discovery House is designed as a 40 bed
adult men's treatment facility with a maximum three month stay.
The program's goal is to provide an environment where residents
can begin recovery from an addictive disease to lead a drug and
alcohol free lifestyle. Constrained by a very small building site
adjacent to the existing outgrown home of the program, collaboration
with the program directors and the county sponsors resulted in a
residential design that is homelike in its details and atmosphere,
yet efficient in its use of space. Materials were drawn from the
residential vocabulary of nearby homes, and forms arose from the
tight building envelope dictated by the site.
This project was completed in July 2004.
