This flat-roofed home sits atop a hillside in
Los Gatos, CA. It showcases materials more suited to commercial
use, such as aluminum windows and corrugated metal doors, to create
a contemporary design, yet also incorporates more traditional materials,
such as stucco and wood, to give the home a cozy atmosphere. The
site's exposure to extreme wind and rain conditions is also accounted
for in the design, which provides wind and rain screens as well
as hurricane-rated windows. A detached artist's studio is connected
to the house by a 2nd floor "bridge" that also serves as a greenhouse.
Extensive decks, an outdoor fireplace and hot tub encourage outdoor
living, and views from the interior are captured and emphasized
with full-height windows.
Construction to begin: Spring 2008.
