The Mendocino Homes have similar "H"-shaped floor
plans, providing maximum light to all rooms of the house. The long
corridors which connect the wings have wide expanses of glazing
which also provide natural light. The homes are on two separate
lots, the main house is located uphill, while the home on the lower
lot serves as a guest house. The main house includes two home offices,
large common spaces and an outdoor room, covered only by exposed
rafters. An outdoor fireplace makes the space useable year-round.
The guest house also has an extensive patio space, landscaped and
connected to its backyard by a series of steps. The pair of homes
relate to each other and their surrounding environments through
the use of wood siding, aluminum clad windows and metal roofs.
Construction documents in progress.
