Work has begun on Phase II buildings for the Abhayagiri
Buddhist Monastery in Redwood Valley, CA. This year we completed
the master plan for a new Meditation Hall, Public Restrooms, and
the Monks' Utility Building (MUB), and are currently working on
the construction drawings for the second two buildings. The 2,300
sq. ft. MUB consists of meeting and working spaces, a laundry, bath
house, and large covered outdoor court, all unified under a single
roof. The exterior materials will harmonize with the buildings we
did in Phase I - stucco and hardi-panel w/ batts for the walls,
and simple composition shingles for the roofs. The project incorporates
photovoltaic panels, hot water panels, and wood-fired heating of
the hot water systems. Completion is slated for the fall of 2009.
